Ex-Prosecutor to Lead N.Y.’s Consumer Financial Protection Unit

New York’s financial regulator has tapped a former federal prosecutor to lead a newly-created unit to oversee consumer protection and enforcement efforts. .

The New York Department of Financial Services said April 29 that it had combined its enforcement, and financial frauds and consumer protection units into a new Consumer Protection and Financial Enforcement Division, signaling an increased focus on consumer protection under the agency’s new leadership. The DFS tapped Katherine A. Lemire, a former assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, to as executive deputy superintendent in charge of the new unit.
