The former finance chief of Russian natural gas producer Novatek must face a $43.8 million civil lawsuit brought by the IRS for his alleged failure to report foreign bank accounts, a federal court said.
The IRS sued Mark Anthony Gyetvay to collect penalties after the ex-CFO was convicted by a jury in March 2023 of not disclosing his Swiss accounts, not filing his 2013-2014 tax returns, and making false statements to the agency. Gyetvay, 66, was sentenced in September to seven years in prison and ordered to pay $4 million in restitution.
