A former Bank of New York Mellon Corp. vice president claims he was fired in retaliation for raising corruption and money-laundering concerns about a client -- Global Bank Corp., a Panamanian bank.
Charles Austin said he recommended that BNY Mellon drop its relationship with Global Bank after a “weekslong investigation.” He said he was told to look into Global Bank after BNY Mellon learned of reports that a group of Panamanian banks were involved in a money-laundering scheme. He said no formal charges were ever filed against Global Bank.
