EU Can Only Tighten Bank Trading Rules If US Does, Sewing Says

Deutsche Bank AG Chief Executive Officer Christian Sewing said the European Union should only implement stricter capital requirements for banks’ trading business if the US does so too.

It’s not yet clear the US will introduce the rules known as the Fundamental Review of the Trading Book, and if it doesn’t, “we shouldn’t do it,” Sewing said at a banking conference in Frankfurt on Friday. “We need to make sure that we have, at the end of the day, the same rules like the US.”
