Equifax to Pay $15 Million Over Flawed Credit Report Probes (1)

Equifax Inc. will pay $15 million to resolve claims that it failed to properly investigate consumer disputes of items on their reports, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau said.

The Atlanta-based credit reporting giant ignored documents customers submitted to back up their claims and allowed errors that had already been deleted to be reinserted into credit reports, the CFPB said in a Friday administrative order.

Credit reporting has been a top priority for the CFPB under Director Rohit Chopra. The latest settlement ends a long-running CFPB investigation into issues Equifax disclosed starting in 2022.
