Civil Rights Groups Want DOJ’s Deal With Texas Developer Blocked

A $68 million settlement between the Trump administration and a Texas land developer setting aside money for immigration and law enforcement operations doesn’t benefit victims of an alleged scheme targeting Hispanic borrowers and should be rejected, civil rights and consumer groups said.

Last month’s settlement between the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division and Colony Ridge Development LLC included $20 million for law enforcement and a requirement for the developer to check borrowers’ immigration status, supporting the administration’s immigration crackdown.
