Ether is getting closer scrutiny at the CFTC as an exchange operator looks to list a futures product based on the cryptocurrency.
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission is putting out a request for information that asks the public to answer questions about the technology, markets, and mechanics for the cryptocurrency, the agency said Dec. 11. The notice came after news emerged this summer that Cboe Global Markets Inc. was interested in launching the offering involving Ether. Cboe in 2017 was the first to have futures based on bitcoin, which the CFTC has called a commodity.
