CFTC Head Favors 24/7 Derivatives Trading Only in Liquid Markets

Any plan to allow around-the-clock derivatives trading should have curbs to ensure trading happens only in liquid markets, Acting Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chair Caroline Pham said Thursday.

“24-7 trading is appropriate but only when there’s enough liquidity,” Acting CFTC Chairman Caroline Pham said Thursday during a Bloomberg TV interview. “We want to make sure we’re thinking through all the possible issues, and want to make sure we’re doing so in an open and transparent way with lots of public engagement.”
