CFPB Drops TransUnion Lawsuit, Continues MoneyLion Case (1)

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau dropped its case against consumer credit reporting giant TransUnion and a former top executive over allegations they violated a 2017 settlement by using deceptive marketing practices to sell subscription-based credit monitoring services.

The CFPB, TransUnion, and former executive John Danaher filed a joint stipulation of voluntary dismissal of the case Friday in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. The parties asked for the case to be dismissed with prejudice, meaning a future CFPB director can’t revive it.

The CFPB didn’t provide a reason for the dismissal in the filing.
