CFPB Dismisses Additional Cases in Trump’s Enforcement Retreat

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau halted Biden-era lawsuits against one of the country’s largest payday lenders and against a payment network alleged to have scammed charity race participants.

The agency sued ACE Cash Express Inc., a brand of Populus Financial Group, in July 2022 over claims that it collected at least $240 million in reborrowing fees since 2014 from delinquent borrowers who may have been eligible for free debt repayment plans.

But the CFPB on Wednesday filed a voluntary motion to dismiss the case in the US District Court for the Northern District of Texas.
