BGOV OnPoint: First Reconciliation Pieces Move Forward in House

Several House committees approved their portions of the budget reconciliation bill designed to advance President Donald Trump’s sweeping tax, immigration, and defense agenda this week.

Republican leaders are trying to come up with ways to slash spending to pay for Trump’s policy priorities, though the House and Senate differ so far on their total savings targets.

The Armed Services, Education and Workforce, Financial Services, Homeland Security, Judiciary, Oversight and Government Reform, and Transportation and Infrastructure committees advanced their proposals, which will ultimately be combined into a final bill by the Budget Committee. ...
