Bank of Slovenia Demands Constitutional Review of Bailout Law

Slovenia’s central bank demanded a Constitutional Court review of a law aimed at protecting investors who lost money in a 2013 bailout that the European Central Bank has criticized as violating euro-area rules.

The central bank has been battling Prime Minister Marjan Sarec’s government over the law, which may force the bank to compensate more than 100,000 people who lost money in the 3.2 billion euro ($3.6 billion) financial-industry rescue.

Sarec’s ruling coalition ignored repeated complaints by the ECB and approved the legislation in November. Investors are now preparing lawsuits against the central bank in Ljubljana on the grounds ...
