Abortion Pills, Social Media Cases Top High Court March Calendar

The battle over the availability of medical abortion will be argued at the US Supreme Court March 26, one of several high-profile cases the justices will hear during their March argument sitting.

In FDA v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine, the justices will consider whether the federal government went too far in easing access to mifepristone, one of two drugs used to end early-term abortions.

In a calendar released Monday, the justices also scheduled arguments March 18 in a dispute over the Biden administration’s efforts to combat online misinformation regarding Covid, election fraud, and other hot-button issues. In Murthy v. Missouri, a group of social media users and states say federal officials coerced social media platforms to censor certain content.

Also scheduled for March 18 is a First Amendment dispute involving the National Rifle Association. In NRA v. Vullo, the progressive American Civil Liberties Union is representing the NRA in a challenge to New York official’s alleged attempts to pressure insurance companies and other financial institutions into blacklisting the gun rights group.

In total, the justices will hear 11 cases during their March sitting, in a term that’s shaping up to be a blockbuster.
