The frequent use of AI in the workplace has almost doubled over two years with the highest users in the technology, professional services and financial sectors, according to a Gallup survey released Monday.
Frequent AI use, defined as using artificial intelligence a few times a week or more, rose from 11% to 19% since Gallup’s first estimated its prevalence in 2023. The increase is for mostly white-collar jobs, with 27% reporting frequent use. Such use is most common among “managers of managers,” at 33%.
Still, employees remain hopeful that AI won’t replace them. “Although workplace AI use is increasing, employees are no more likely than they were two years ago to see themselves being replaced soon,” according to the survey. “Only 15% of employees say it is very or somewhat likely that automation, robots or AI will eliminate their job within the next five years, unchanged from 2023 and 2024 measures.”
About 44% of employees in the survey said their organizations had started to integrate AI into work processes, but only 22% said there was a clear plan or strategy on how to do it. “30% of employees say their organization has either general guidelines or formal policies for using AI at work. That leaves a 14-point gap between organizations integrating AI and providing standards for AI use at work,” the survey reported.
The data suggest that having a clear AI strategy and plan leads to the most value for workers, Gallup said.
