Kentucky Representative Thomas Massie was already locked in one of the toughest Republican primary races in the country thanks to his criticism of Donald Trump and the president’s determination to unseat him. Then, just before his May 19 primary, a strange new complication emerged.

A super PAC aligned with Massie’s opponent released an ad, generated with artificial intelligence, that purported to show grainy security-camera footage of the married congressman, a staunch conservative, holding hands with liberal Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar, as the “throuple” checked into a hotel room for what the ad insinuated was a steamy affair. ...
