The US Open Tennis Championship in New York is into its first week — and so are the narratives that make the four-tournament Grand Slam circuit a magnet for melodrama. Daniil Medvedev has already raised a ruckus, sent into a rage by a photographer crossing the court in the middle of a vital point. The 2021 champion encouraged the crowd to boo the umpire as his French opponent Benjamin Bonzi stewed. In the end, the Russian lost, but contributed to the kind of stadium theatricality that gets crowds buzzing.
