Scale AI Loses to Smaller Startup in Bid for US Intel Work

An AI startup has won a seven-year contract to supply data labeling for artificial intelligence and machine learning for the US Department of Defense and intelligence community, beating out a larger rival, Scale AI Inc.

Enabled Intelligence Inc., founded in 2020 and based in Falls Church, Virginia, was awarded the contract in September but it was made public by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency following the return to work after the government shutdown. The contract, with a ceiling of $708 million, is the agency’s largest data labeling effort to date, according to last year’s request for proposals.
