OpenAI will roll out a feature that allows for a user to be connected with a nominated ‘trusted’ contact during moments of an emotional crisis, it said in a memo.
- ‘Trusted Contact’ feature will not replace professional care or crisis services, and is one of several layers of safeguards to support people in distress, OpenAI says
- ChatGPT will still encourage users to contact crisis hotlines or emergency services when appropriate
- Trusted contact may be contacted if user discusses self-harm in a way that indicates a serious safety concern
