New AI Risk Guardrails for Companies Emerging With Texas Law

A new Texas law is providing tech companies with a path to set internal guardrails on how they use artificial intelligence while avoiding some high-risk practices.

The law that went into effect this month, known as the Texas Responsible Artificial Intelligence Governance Act (TRAIGA), prevents intentional discrimination against federal or state protected classes when it comes to employment, prohibits the use of deepfakes, and requires transparency when it comes to the use of biometrics. It also prohibits AI that may be used to intentionally incite self-harm and bans government offices from using artificial intelligence for social scoring.
