Michigan Senate Approves Bills Outlawing AI Election Deep Fakes

The Michigan state Senate approved trimmed-down legislation on Thursday that would outlaw the use of artificial intelligence to create deep fake campaign advertisements, ahead of competitive contests in the swing state next year that could determine control of the White House and Congress.

“It will be a huge step in keeping misinformation away from voters,” said Michigan House Elections Committee Chair Penelope Tsernoglou (D) in a previous interview with Bloomberg Law. “I’m hoping we can take the lead in that and that more states will follow suit.”
