Meta Delays Launching AI Models in Europe Amid Regulator Concern

Meta said it will pause the launch of Meta AI in Europe after its Irish Regulator requested the company delay training its LLMs on public user content posted on Facebook and Instagram.

  • Request via the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) on behalf of European DPAs
  • “Put simply, without including local information we’d only be able to offer people a second-rate experience,” Meta said in an updated blog post
  • Meta will continue to work with the DPC
