Franklin CEO Johnson Warns That Lots of AI ‘Dead Ends’ Are Ahead

Jan. 19, 2026, 10:20 AM UTC

This year will be pivotal for artificial intelligence as companies figure out how to deploy the technology, a process that will create clear winners and losers, according to Franklin Resources Inc. Chief Executive Officer Jenny Johnson.

“We haven’t even begun to see the impact of AI on individual companies,” Johnson said in a Bloomberg Television interview in Davos ahead of the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting. Firms that “get it right will take off, leaving the others behind,” she said. Much of the market’s enthusiasm so far has focused on “picks-and-shovels” providers, rather than end users, she added.
