DOJ Charges Three With Conspiring to Smuggle AI Tech to China

The DOJ charged a Chinese national and two US citizens with conspiring to commit smuggling and export AI technology to China, according to a news release from the DOJ.

  • Stanley Yi Zheng, Matthew Kelly, and Tommy Shad English were charged and alleged to have sought millions of dollars’ worth of export-controlled computer chips from a California-based computer hardware company
  • The three began to conspire about obtaining computer servers with export-controlled computer chips in May 2023, per the release
  • The criminal complaints were issued in the Northern District of Georgia
