Political Anti-Deepfake Protections Signed Into Law by Newsom

California political campaigns will have to declare whether their ads have been altered by artificial intelligence under a measure signed into law Tuesday by Gov. Gavin Newsom (D).

The new law (AB 2355) is aimed at reducing the possibility that such content can confuse voters and spread disinformation. The measure requires that political ads include disclosures if they have been substantially altered by or generated with AI.
