Newsom Signs First-in-US AI Safety Disclosure Requirements

Developers of advanced artificial intelligence models will need to disclose their safety protocols under a first-in-the-nation law signed Monday by California Gov. Gavin Newsom.

The law (SB 53) will apply to developers working with AI models trained using a specified, high quantity of computing power, and those with gross annual revenues of more than $500 million will need to provide more detailed disclosures. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) is considering similar legislation.
