Biden’s AI-Powered Warfare and Spying Plan: Five Takeaways

President Joe Biden signed a wide-ranging memorandum on artificial intelligence Thursday that directs military and intelligence officials to rapidly deploy the technology, while setting physical safety and privacy protections.

The strategy highlights innovation in the AI industry, largely housed outside the government. It assigns tasks to agencies across the government to support the industry’s growth.

“The United States government cannot take the unmatched vibrancy and innovativeness of the United States AI ecosystem for granted,” the memo states. “It must proactively strengthen it.”
