Jan. 16, 2024, 6:25 PM UTC

OpenAI Chief Executive Officer Sam Altman said massive demand for electricity to power artificial intelligence will require a breakthrough in clean energy generation, listing fusion or a combination of solar power and storage as two likely possibilities.

“It’s totally fair to say that AI is going to need a lot more energy,” Altman said in an interview at Bloomberg House at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Tuesday. “That will force us to invest more in the technologies that can deliver this, none of which are the ones that are burning carbon.”
