AI Robocall-Blockers Merit US Investment, FCC Chief Says

US regulators should develop artificial intelligence tools to filter out robocalls as the next step in a broader effort to crack down on phone scams, the head of the FCC said Tuesday.

AI tools could help Americans decide whether to answer unwanted calls and texts, Federal Communications Commission Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel said in a press release. Major wireless providers already offer tools to flag robocalls, though they don’t eliminate all of them.

The five FCC commissioners will vote next month on whether to develop the technology before debating the details.
