AI Advisers at UN Push for Scientific Panel to Inform Laws (1)

The United Nations should stand up an independent scientific panel on artificial intelligence similar to its well-known coalition of climate researchers, the body’s AI advisory group said in a report out Thursday.

The scientists would publish research annually measuring AI-related capabilities and risks akin to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and its yearly assessment reports, the group said. World leaders would meet about the panel’s publications on the sidelines of other UN meetings and use the reports to inform their approach to the technology.
