Yelp Files Local Search Monopolization Suit Against Google (1)

Yelp Inc. filed a lawsuit against Alphabet’s Google LLC unit, alleging the tech giant suppresses competition in the market for local search advertising.

Google engaged in a scheme that “prevents businesses from reaching customers without paying Google and starves competitors of the traffic and revenues that would allow them to achieve scale and pose a competitive constraint on Google’s conduct,” Yelp said in a complaint filed Wednesday in US District Court for the Northern District of California.

The case comes just weeks after Google lost a suit brought by the Justice Department alleging the company illegally monopolized the search market ...
