Google, the search-engine startup that became the tech behemoth Alphabet Holdings, was founded on a clear principle: “Don’t be evil.” And yet the company was last year found guilty of running an illegal monopoly. It faced dismemberment at the hands of the US judicial system, a fate that once befell AT&T or John D. Rockefeller’s Standard Oil.
