From groceries to housing and even candy, American consumers are being rocked by inflation that’s persisting even in the face of higher interest rates.

Thursday’s report revealed the scale of price pressures roiling the US economy, with overall consumer-price inflation in September at 8.2%, staying above 8% for a seventh straight month. Even bright spots such as a drop in fuel prices belie bad news.
