Vitol Hit With Consumer Class Action Alleging Gas Market Rigging

Vitol Inc. and SK Energy Americas Inc. were hit with a proposed class action in San Francisco federal court claiming they took advantage of a 2015 refinery explosion to rig the California gasoline market for nearly two years.

The lawsuit comes two days after California Attorney General Xavier Becerra made similar allegations against the companies in state court. The newest suit was filed Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California on behalf of anyone who bought retail gas in the state from early 2015 through late 2016.
