Colorado ski resort giant Vail Resorts Inc. and competitor Alterra Mountain Co. were sued in federal court by skiers who allege the companies coerce them into purchasing pricey season passes and drive up the cost of individual lift tickets.

Vail Resorts Inc. and Alterra unlawfully bundle access to their ski resorts through all-or-nothing-season passes that customers must buy in advance of the ski season in order to access multiple mountains, according to a proposed class action filed Monday in the US District Court for the District of Colorado.
