UK Watchdog to Curb Rising Vet Costs With Slate of Reforms (2)

The UK’s antitrust watchdog imposed reforms on the UK’s £6.7 billion ($9 billion) veterinary market to improve pricing transparency and curb rising costs for pet owners.

The Competition and Markets Authority introduced price caps on written prescriptions and measures for pricing and ownership transparency to make it easier for animal owners to find cheaper services and medicines, according to a statement on Tuesday.

“Modern legislation is overdue,” the watchdog said supporting the government plans to update the law for the sector. “Consumers would benefit from tougher monitoring and enforcement of regulatory standards.”
