U.S. Google Suit Assigned to Obama-Appointee Judge Mehta

U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta in Washington will oversee the Justice Department’s antitrust lawsuit filed against Alphabet Inc.’s Google, according to court records.

• NOTE: Mehta was appointed to the court in 2014 by then-President Barack Obama
  • Mehta ruled last year that lawmakers have authority to demand President Donald Trump’s financial records from his accounting firm
  • In 2015, the judge sided with the Federal Trade Commission in the agency’s successful lawsuit to block Sysco Corp.’s takeover of US Foods Inc
