Tobii’s Merger with Smartbox Faces U.K. Antitrust Probe

The U.K.'s antitrust regulator opened an investigation into eye-tracking software developer Tobii AB’s completed acquisition of U.K.-based Smartbox Assistive Technology Ltd. for potential harm to the market for assistive communication technology for disabled persons.

Tobii, based in Sweden, announced in August that its largest business unit and the market leader in assistive technology, Tobii Dynavox, would buy Smartbox and related Sensory Software International Ltd. for 11 million pounds ($14 million). Tobii said in August that the deal would allow Tobii Dynavox to “further consolidate its market leading position” in assistive technology and “strengthen its sales channels in key geographical markets.” ...
