Ticketing Giant Sabre Heads for Trial of US Air Antitrust Claims

Sabre Holding Corp. must face a trial of antitrust claims brought by the former US Airways Inc., which merged with American Airlines Inc., over its alleged monopoly on ticketing transactions between air carriers and travel agents, a federal judge in Manhattan ruled.

Judge Lorna G. Schofield denied Sabre’s bid for summary judgment Thursday, saying the evidence could persuade a jury the company exploited its “lock” on roughly 50% of the market to overcharge for access to its pool of affiliated travel agents and punish airlines that circumvented its platform.
