Tennis Players Gain Class Certification in Prize Money Dispute

College tennis players secured class status in a suit accusing the NCAA of enforcing rules that restrict the prize money that they can accept in third-party competitions without losing college eligibility.

A federal judge certified injunctive relief and damages classes Monday. The case can now move forward on behalf of athletes who were ineligible to compete in NCAA Division I Tennis due to the NCAA’s prize money rules or who voluntarily forfeited prize money in a non-NCAA tennis tournament.
