Sony Loses Bid to Deny Class Certification in PlayStation Case

Sony Group Corp. failed to convince a judge to reject class certification for a group of gamers who claim the Japanese company inflated prices of digital PlayStation games.

Judge Araceli Martinez-Olguin of the US District for the Northern District of California said in a ruling late last week that Sony waived its arbitration rights with the class members, and couldn’t rely on those rights to prevail in its motion to deny class certification.

“On the current record, the Court cannot conclude that Plaintiffs are precluded from prosecuting their claims on a class basis in this forum,” Martinez-Olguin stated.
