Senate Democrats Propose $55 Million Boost for DOJ Antitrust (1)

The Department of Justice’s antitrust division would get a funding increase of nearly 25% and face no fee caps, under a fiscal 2025 appropriations bill from Senate Democrats.

The proposal comes amid debates over the funding streams for the DOJ’s antitrust unit as it pursues competition cases against corporate giants such as Apple Inc. and Alphabet Inc.

The bill would guarantee $288 million in funding for the DOJ antitrust division in fiscal 2025, $55 million more than the fiscal 2024 level, according to a summary released Thursday by Senate Appropriations Committee chair Patty Murray (D-Wash.).
