Ray-Ban Maker’s US Arm Fails to Fend Off Retailer Antitrust Claim

A federal judge granted an eyewear retailer its request to amend its antitrust claims against the US arm of global eyewear firm EssilorLuxottica SA, the maker of Ray-Ban sunglasses.

Judge Douglas R. Cole of the US District Court for the Southern District of Ohio in a Wednesday order gave plaintiff Brave Optical 30 days to expand on its antitrust claims against Luxottica of America Inc., a dominant player in the US vision insurance market that also owns eyewear outlets across the country.

Luxottica had objected, arguing the claims were time-barred.
