Quanta Seeks New Trial, Appeals HP’s $439 Million Disk Drive Win

Quanta Storage Inc. said it would ask the Fifth Circuit to overturn a $439 million price-fixing judgment in Hewlett-Packard Co.’s favor, while also renewing its bid for a new trial in Houston federal court.

The antitrust lawsuit alleged a widespread scheme by Quanta and other large electronics companies to inflate the price of optical disk drives, a critical computer hardware component. It was filed by HP in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas.

The other electronics makers—including Hitachi-LG Data Storage, Sony Corp. and Panasonic Corp.—settled HP’s claims, but Taiwan-based Quanta went to trial. ...
