Puerto Rico’s winter baseball league, popularly named after Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente, is facing federal antitrust litigation in San Juan over claims it illegally seized control over one of its clubs after suspending the franchise operator for threatening to relocate the team.
The lawsuit, filed Monday, targets Liga de Beisbol Profesional de Puerto Rico Inc., its president, five of its six teams, and the entity appointed to replace the company through which “investor-operator” Tom Axon controlled the San Juan-based Cangrejeros de Santurce franchise.
