Puerto Rico League Use of MLB Antitrust Shield Gets Scrutiny (1)

The First Circuit on Thursday probed arguments by plaintiffs who say the federal baseball antitrust exemption shouldn’t have shielded a top Puerto Rican baseball league from antitrust claims.

At issue is a district court ruling that last year tossed federal antitrust claims brought by plaintiff Tom Axon, who accused Liga de Béisbol Profesional de Puerto Rico Inc. and its affiliate teams of preventing him from investing in and operating a professional baseball team in the US island territory.
