Pilgrim’s Pride to Pay $100 Million in Chicken Farmer Settlement

Pilgrim’s Pride Corp. is poised to pay $100 million in cash to settle claims it conspired with other poultry processors to suppress the pay of chicken farmers in violation of antitrust law.

Farmer plaintiffs revealed the settlement details in a motion for preliminary approval of the deal Aug. 16 in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. The plaintiffs previously notified the court of an agreement in principle with Pilgrim’s, the sole remaining defendant in the long-running dispute, but didn’t disclose the terms at the time.
