Pilgrim’s Pride Gets Final Approval of $100 Million Settlement

Pilgrim’s Pride Corp. won final approval of its $100 million class action settlement with chicken farmers over a contentious wage suppression dispute, marking the end to litigation that began nearly a decade ago.

Judge Robert J. Shelby of the US District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma in a Monday order said the deal was negotiated by counsel with “significant experience litigating antitrust class actions and is the result of vigorous arm’s-length negotiations undertaken in good faith.” Shelby also approved class counsel’s requested award of attorneys’ fees worth $33.3 million, one-third of the settlement’s cash value.
