Applied Systems Inc. was sued in federal court by a rival that claims the company leveraged its market power in the insurance agency management software business to crush competitors, escalating a dispute between the two firms.

Plaintiff Ardent Labs Inc., a startup that does business as Comulate, alleged that Applied monopolized the market for enterprise-level insurance agency management systems so that its own product “would face no meaningful competition,” according to a complaint filed Monday in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
