NextEra Sued With Claims It Sabotaged New England Energy Project

NextEra Energy Inc. was hit with an antitrust suit alleging it hindered a rival’s plans to develop a transmission line that would bring lower-cost, clean electricity to the state of Massachusetts.

Plaintiff Avangrid Inc. alleged the electricity supplier schemed to delay the permitting and approval process needed to develop the $1 billion New England Clean Energy Connect project, according to a complaint filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts.

NextEra has also been sued on other grounds, including a suit brought by shareholders who alleged the company engaged in political misconduct that created reputational risk ...
