A group of volunteer coaches won their bid to certify a class in an antitrust lawsuit accusing the NCAA of conspiring with member schools to avoid paying them.
“This issue comes down to a merits-based dispute between the parties’ experts concerning the appropriate method for measuring impact,"Judge William B. Shubb of the US District Court for the Eastern District of California said in a Tuesday order.
The NCAA’s bylaw restricts Division I schools to a limited number of paid coaches but allows hiring of other designated volunteer coaches who aren’t paid, the class said.
